Operation Respect
Recently, I had the priviledge of hearing Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul and Mary) speak and perform. It was not only wonderful to hear him sing but I was also moved by his passion to teach children respect. I have used materials from his program, "Operation Respect," and highly recommend his song and accompanying video, "Don't Laugh at Me." Also, one of the points that Peter Yarrow repeatedly made was that we need to empower the bystanders. We have to teach children to have the courage to speak out or step in to protect their friends. I am constantly expressing this message and will continue to make this a part of It's OK to be Different.

Hi Ms Gaunt, We met at THS a few weeks ago when I co-oped for Mrs Kaeli's class. I approached you about the possibility of starting It's Ok to be Different in my son's school, St. James elementary. I am trying to spread the word but wanted to know if you could come and speak to our PTA to explain the program. Please let me know you're thoughts and if you are willing I will try to set it up. Also I see from you're brochure that you incorporate Disabilities Awareness. I want to have a Disabilities Awareness day in which stations are set up and the kids can simulate what it's like to have a disability. I found some press about a school on the west coast that did it, I contacted the person and she gave me the breakdown. I was wondering if you knew of people that could help me run this.
ReplyDeletethank you in advance for all you're help
